Brands We LOVE: Artisanal Small Batch Mallorca Dry Gin.

Who created Gin and why do you see every bar in Spain serving their version of a Gin & Tonic? Gin is one of the broadest categories of spirits, represented by products of various origins, styles, and flavor profiles that all revolve around juniper as a common ingredient. Most people associate Gin as being a drank mainly in England, this happened when the Government allowed unlicensed gin production, resulting in a poor quality product sold for very little money. Often Gin was consumed by the poor. Now let's fast forward to modern time and realize that Spain has perfected the art of making the perfect Gin & Tonic. Personally, I think the large 'copa de balon' and sunshine have a lot to do with how well this drink fits in Spain.

We had a chance to take a tour and tasting of a Mallorcan Dry Gin that has been being made here for several years. Stefan and his wife Eva have created true balance with the ingredients they add to their Gin. It has the classic overall top notes of Juniper which your palate recognizes immediately, then through the middle and bottom you get hints of orange and lemon which are hand picked from a Citrus Grove on the island. My absolute favorite part about this Gin in particular is how they found out there is wild juniper growing along the rocks by Es Trenc Beach, making this Gin sing the praises of Mallorca. Paired with the right amount of sunshine, sitting at a neighborhood bar this will be my drink of choice!

Gin Eva also does tours for groups of people, wether you live here on the island or just coming on Holiday wanting to see where this fine Dry Gin is made. Let us know and our Taste Makers can customize the perfect afternoon trip!
